Puno to La Paz

The lady behind the desk of Suites Antonio in Puno recommended that I go the slightly longer route to La Paz. She said nicer, more interesting. She was perfectly correct. Grab a colectivo in Puno to take you to Yunguo, catch a ride on a tricycle there to the border. Check out of Peru and then walk to the Bolivian side. Exchange some money for transportation and catch a colectivo to Copacabana. A lovely lakeside town I wish I had had the time to stay for a bit. From there it's by large bus to La Paz. But wait! You know the drill. Going this way, there is definitely more, as you will see. The two pictures of Lake Titicaca, above, I took from the crowded colectivo, as we were approaching Yunguo,

Now on the Bolivian side of the border, looking back. The border control office is on the right side, viewed from here. While waiting for my colectivo to get going to Copa, I notice the excellent brick work around here. These guys know brick. But they are also Inca and in one case, had to add the condors.

I had just started to walk around pretty little Copacabana, a Bolivian vacation resort, when a bus to La Paz came by, saw me and the yell, 'La Paz!' sent me running for it. It was a good thing too, it's a long ride and I arrived in La Paz after dark. However, because of that, I missed the few but interesting sites of Copa, one of which is this old church or monastery. I did what I could from the bus.

A look back, as the bus was climbing above Copacabana. You can see the church on the left side of the picture..

Climbing up and over a mountain range suddenly the lake was there again.

Yup. That the Bolivian Navy Titicaca District HQ. The bus had gone back down to the lake shore.
